JNU: Jawaharlal Nehru University Launches Course on Traditional Indian Knowledge for Student

JNU: Students of all subjects in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will study traditional Indian knowledge. JNU has started an optional course based on Indian knowledge traditions for students of all courses. Under this course, students of engineering, management, science, and other subjects will also study it. This course will be made available at all schools and centers of JNU. In this course, each department will include content tailored to its specific field.

UGC is trying to promote such courses in educational institutions across the country. UGC is advocating the inclusion of Indian knowledge traditions in the academic curriculum as part of its efforts to introduce students to India’s intellectual heritage and values. Engineering students will study traditional practices of engineering and management students will study ancient economic and administrative systems under the new course.

Schools and centers will prepare courses by their subjects. The university approved the proposal during a meeting last month and has requested all its schools to include Indian knowledge traditions in their curriculum. The schools have been asked to submit their suggestions to finalize the curriculum.

Students will get academic credits:

It can be introduced as an optional course from the next academic session. It will be available as an optional course along with the core areas of study of the students. These optional courses will have academic credits. JNU has also recently set up centers for Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist studies to promote the traditional knowledge systems of India. JNU has 13 schools, each of which has several centers dedicated to particular academic subjects. There are 38 centers in these schools.
